Step by Step Easy Apple Sauce
Do you love applesauce? My kids sure do, and what a great way to preserve all those apples from your orchard. Making it home you get to control what goes into it, and you know your kids are getting the best.
This one I remember making only once with my Grandma, and I can’t seem to get it just right. She didn’t can it to save but would make it for us when we visited her. I do cook it, and I’m sure someday, my grandkids will have similar memories.
Apple sauce from the store is so full of sugars and preservatives. Homemade from fresh organically grown apples is really the best. You know what goes into it and get to enjoy the healthiest sweet treat during harvest time and for months after.
Preserving Applesauce
Apples are actually really easy to can and preserve. They have enough natural sugars and acids that they preserve really well with just a water bath canner.
Properly canned applesauce will store in the pantry for 9-12 months. That is unless you indulge a little too frequently. We always use up our supplies long before the time is up. Be sure to label your jars to use the older ones first.

Applesauce Canning Instructions
It’s easy to double or triple the above recipe to have enough applesauce to can for later. Mix up a large batch and mash up the apples with an immersion blender to make it faster. Fill pint sized jars and use your water bath canner to seal them. They only need to process for 20 minutes at 1000 ft. or lower altitudes.
There you have it, easy delicious and organic apple sauce right from your tree to enjoy all year round.
